JD Souther Information
John David Souther (November 2, 1945) is a multi-talented American. Songs performed by Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles were written or co-authored by him. Souther has a stellar reputation as a songwriter, particularly in the country rock genre. "Best of My Love," "Victim of Love," "Heartache Tonight," and "New Kid in Town" are just a few of the Eagles' smash tunes that he co-wrote. Roy Orbison and Friends: A Black and White Night, a concert and DVD released in 1987, featured his contributions, performances, and vocal arrangements. He also worked with Clannad that year, lending his voice to their album Sirius as a guest singer.
In 1989, Souther co-wrote "The Heart of the Matter" with Don Henley, which became a smash. Featured on the soundtrack of the 1990 Johnny Depp film Cry-Baby, Souther co-wrote the song "Doin' Time for Bein' Young" with James Intveld. After nearly 25 years without a studio album, Souther returned with If the World Was You on October 14, 2008.
He followed up his 2009 autumn live CD with Rain—Live at the Belcourt Theatre, featuring new and old songs. Natural History, a collection of cover versions of Souther's songs by other musicians, was published by him on May 31, 2011. His live EP Midnight in Tokyo came out on October 9, 2012.
