Jason Terrance Phillips (May 27, 1975) is an American rapper. He is professionally known by his stage name, Jadakiss. He was born in Yonkers, New York. When his parents told him he had to start paying his way, he got a job at 12. After seeing other people on the corner doing it, he decided to try his hand at freestyle rapping for cash. He made lifelong pals with Sheek Louch and Styles P while freestyling.
Phillips had a tiny but dedicated following online and, at the age of 12, competed in a freestyle contest in Florida, where he caught the attention of the Ruff Ryders label. He united with Styles and Louch to form The Warlox and started rapping as a trio. After meeting Mary J. Blige, who was pleased by the group's lyrics, Puff Daddy signed the group to his company, Bad Boy.
In 2001, Jadakiss started his solo career, and in August of that year, his debut album, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye, was released on the Ruff Ryders/Interscope label. The album, which featured such well-known guests and producers as DJ Premier, The Alchemist, DMX, Eve, Snoop Dogg, Nas, and Swizz Beatz, was commercially successful, selling over 200,000 copies in its first week of release and earning a gold certification from the RIAA.
