Taalib Johnson is an American singer and songwriter professionally known by his stage name, Musiq Soulchild and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Musiq Soulchild joined Def Jam Recordings' Def Soul label in 1998, specializing in modern R&B. He later released his debut album, Aijuswanaseing, in 2000. Its lead single was titled "Just Friends (Sunny)." The song "Love," his second single, stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for 22 weeks.
Musiq and Syleena Johnson collaborated on an album titled 9ine, which was released in September 2013. Nine reggae songs were recorded in nine days for this album, released on the independent Shanachie label. Campbell's first two Atlantic albums used Musiq; they were 2007's Luvanmusiq and 2008's OnMyRadio. On July 30, 2014, he released an EP on DatPiff named The Husel.
His debut self-produced solo album, Life on Earth, was released in April 2016 on My Block/E1 Music. The song "I Do" is the first single. He switched to eOne/SoulStar Music Company short after. New singles "Simple Things" and "Start Over" were published in 2017 in anticipation of an upcoming album, Feel the Real, scheduled for release on September 15, 2017. In April 2017, he released the first official music videos for the songs.
