Idles Information
Idles is a British rock band. The current lineup includes Adam Devonshire, Joe Talbot, Mark Bowen, Lee Kiernan, and Jon Beavis. The band's 2012 debut EP, Welcome, was their first official release. In 2014, the band's lineup was Talbot, Devonshire, Mark Bowen (guitar), Lee Kiernan (guitar), and Jon Beavis (drums). After releasing an EP of remixes in 2015 called Meta and a second EP, Meat, which took a somewhat more aggressive approach than their earlier work, the band began to compose songs for their debut album in 2016.
The album was named Best Punk Record at the 2021 A2IM Libera Awards by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM). In addition, the band contributed three cover versions to various albums in 2021. One was Sharon Van Etten's "Peace Signs" from her commemorative Epic Ten album. The other two were Gang of Four's "Damaged Goods" from Andy Gill's tribute album The Problem Of Leisure and Metallica's "The God That Failed" from their charity tribute album The Metallica Blacklist.
Featuring LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and Nancy Whang, the band's single "Dancer" was released on October 18, 2023. Kenny Beats, Nigel Godrich, and guitarist Mark Bowen collaborated on the album Tangk, which is set to be released on February 16, 2024. Among 2023's finest songs, "Dancer" was ranked 49th by NME. A follow-up song, "Grace," was released on December 6, 2023.
