Handgrenades is an American band that was founded in 2009. The group was able to find its footing with Beatles and Motown covers. Nick Chevillet and Andrew Pawelski are the frontmen of the Handgrenades, who welcomed Jesse Shepherd-Bates as a third voice in the ensemble. Some of the earliest tunes by the band were heavily under the influence of the Beatles. They can be easily felt on their debut LP entitled The Morning After, released in 2012.
Handgrenades took an abrupt stylistic shift in music when drummer extraordinaire Joby Kaslowski joined in. The new style was able to bear fruit in 2014 when the band released a four-song EP entitled 52. The release is loaded with instantly catchy pop-rock songs. The songs were able to provide the group with its very own identity. The EP was followed by their sophomore album named Tunnels in 2016.
With Chevillet, Shepherd-Bates, and Pawelski trading lead vocals as well as harmonizing, the group’s diverse writing styles know how to cleave against and merge perfectly with each other. That also remarkably avoids any sound, which shows that they compete. This is indeed a unique quality of the band as most of the ensembles have many songwriters who sound like they’re pulling apart from the center.
