Gwar Information
Gwar is a heavy metal band from the US that was founded in 1984 in Richmond, Virginia. The band is run by Slave Pit Inc., a group of musicians, artists, and filmmakers whose lineup changes constantly. Even though none of the original members are involved, the group has been making music and touring after lead singer and leader Dave Brockie passed away in 2014.
Gwar's visually striking costumes are just the beginning of their elaborate science fiction mythology, which depicts the band members as savage interplanetary warriors. This narrative forms the foundation of the band's music, live performances, and other forms of media. Gwar's songs and stage productions have garnered praise and criticism for their over-the-top violent, sexual, and scatological comedy and social and political satire.
There was a Tiny Desk Concert with Gwar on NPR in July 2023. In honor of Oderus Urungus, the band sang their farewell song. Purgason announced his eleven-year exit from the band on November 5, 2023. He went on to say that he was departing amicably and would still be engaged in some way later on. Balsac, the Jaws of Death, revealed his involvement in creating the script for Gwar Must Die on November 21, 2023.
