Greta Van Fleet is a rock band, and the current lineup consists of Jake Kiszka, Sam Kiszka, Josh Kiszka, and Danny Wagner. The group's first proper studio album was released on October 19, 2018, and immediately went to the top of the Billboard Rock Albums chart. The lead song, "When the Curtain Falls," was released prior to the album in July 2018. It quickly rose to the top of the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, becoming the band's third consecutive number-one single.
"Broken Bells" is the band's fourth single, released on March 19, 2021. The band then embarked on a massive "Dreams in Gold" tour across the globe in 2021 and '22. During the tracking week of July 16-22, MRC Data reported that Greta Van Fleet's U.S. on-demand streams of its catalog increased by 122% to 7.6 million. The rock group also had an increase of 461% in digital song downloads and 86% in album sales, totaling 6,000 and 5,000, respectively.
The first single, "Meeting the Master," from the album, was released digitally on April 9, 2023, with a music video debuting on May 4, 2023. On May 19, 2023, the band's second single, "Sacred the Thread," was published digitally. The band released both "Farewell for Now" and "The Falling Sky" as singles on June 8 and June 27, 2023, respectively. The band released the album on July 21, 2023, debuting at number eight on the U.S. Billboard 20 U.S. with initial sales of 46,000 copies.
