Goblin Information
Goblin is an Italian progressive rock band. The current group lineup comprises Agostino Marangolo, Fabio Pignatelli, and Maurizio Guarini. The band started working with Giorgio Gaslini on the film Profondo Rosso in 1975. During this time, Agostino Marangolo (of the band Flea on the Honey/Flea/Etna) succeeded Martino (who later joined the band Libra). Except for two tracks, all of Profondo Rosso was produced by Martino.
Gaslini left the film after a disagreement with director Dario Argento after three or four days of recording, so Argento allowed the band to try their hand at composing by giving them one night to write a score and one day to record it. The band adopted the moniker "Goblin" to differentiate their latest effort from their soon-to-be-released debut album. Over a million copies were sold, and they spent 52 weeks at the top of the Italian album and singles rankings.
After the publication of Giovanni Aloisio's official Goblin biography and the launch of the band's official website in 2005, however, Morante and Pignatelli reunited with the band and, joined by Marangolo and Guarini, recorded the album BackToTheGoblin2005 for the independent label BackToTheFudda. The album was not distributed to normal stores and could only be purchased through the official website. It can be downloaded from iTunes as well.
