Gloria Gaynor Information
Gloria Gaynor (September 7, 1943) is an American singer. She is best known for her disco-era hits, such as her version of “Never Can Say Goodbye” (1974), “Let Me Know (I Have a Right)” (1979), and “I Will Survive” (1978). Gaynor was born in Newark, New Jersey. She was brought by her grandmother, who lived nearby. During her childhood, Gaynor enjoyed listening to the radio. Gaynor listened to records by Sarah Vaughan and Nat King Cole.
Gaynor started her music career as a singer with the Soul Satisfiers, an R&B, and a jazz music band in the 1960s. In 1973, Gaynor received her first real success after signing a record deal to Columbia Records by Clive Davis. Later on, she signed with MGM Records and released her debut album in January 1975 entitled, Never Can Say Goodbye. The title song of the album became the first one to top Billboard magazine’s dance chart.
Gaynor was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Music by Dowling College in 2015. She also made a cameo appearance in 2017 as a flight attendant in a Capital One commercial.
Gaynor’s has released several other studio albums in her career, such as Experience Gloria Gaynor (1975), Glorious (1977), Gloria Gaynor’s Park Avenue Sound (1978), I Have a Right (1979), Stories (1980), I Kinda Like Me (1981), and Gloria Gaynor (1982).
