Geographer Information
Geographer is an American indie/synth-pop rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Mike Deni. Deni released Innocent Ghosts independently on August 17, 2008, and they started playing shows in and around the San Francisco Bay Area shortly after. Spin magazine named them "[o]ne of the three undiscovered bands you need to hear now" after hearing the release, and the band received recognition both locally and nationally. Deni inked a recording contract with Bay Area label Tricycle Records in December 2009, resulting in the release of a 7" for the song "Kites," backed by a cover of "Age of Consent" by English rock band New Order.
The next year, in 2010, he released a six-song EP titled Animal Shapes in addition to the single. The album's digital download edition was new renditions of "Kites" and "Paris" by local Bay Area bands Wallpaper and The Limousines. The album did well critically, earning the band a "Best of" nod from SF Weekly.
Deni dropped Myth on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Earlier that year, in March, the band set out on a five-week U.S. tour with fellow indie-pop band Miniature Tigers. Their biggest crowd to that point was at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco on August 11, 2012, where they played a show on the Twin Peaks Stage.
