Gary Hoey Information
Gary Hoey (August 23, 1960) is an American hard rock and latterly blues-rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist. So far, he has recorded over 20 albums, and five of them have reached Top 5 Billboard hits. Gary dropped out of high school just to pursue his musical career. He began playing in the local clubs of Boston as well as teaching guitar to other young players. Hoey was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, and went to Berklee College of Music at the age of fourteen. In 1988, Hoey auditioned for Ozzy Osbourne.
Gary Hoey formed a band called “Heavy Bones” and included Frankie Banali (drummer), Rex Tennyson (bassist), and Joel Ellis (singer). In 1992, the band released their debut album but broke up shortly afterward. He recorded a successful album entitled “Animal Extinct” in 1993. The album included a cover single of the Focus entitled “Hocus Focus” that reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100. Hoey has worked with a few record labels, including Surdog, Wazoo Music Group, Reprise, and Warner.
Hoey has provided his services as a guitar player, producer, and writer to renowned clients, including No Fear, ESPN, and Disney. His notable studio albums include Get A Grip (1991), Endless Summer II Soundtrack (1994), Gary Hoey (1995), Ho! Ho! Hoey (1995), Money (1999), Ho! Ho! Hoey 3 (1999), Ho! Ho! Hoey: The Complete Collection (2003), Fade to Blues (2008), Deja Blues (2013), and Neon Highway Blues (2019).
