Extreme is a popular American band originating from Malden, Massachusetts. The group was founded in 1985. Gary Cherone, the singer, and Paul Geary, the drummer, had previously played in a band named The Dream. Two bands featuring guitarist Nuno Bettencourt at their peak in the late '80s and '90s were Sinful and In The Pink Massachusetts. Both the ensembles were formed in 1985 and based out of Berklee College.

Since their formation, the band members have released six full-length albums, two extended plays (in Japan), and two compilations. The fact that the band had sold more than 10 million albums worldwide proves their importance in the early 1990s rock scene.

After debuting at number 10 on the Billboard 200, Extreme's Pornograffitti album in 1990 became certified gold in May 1991 and double platinum in October 1992. The acoustic ballad "More Than Words" was the album's lead single, and it topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

Extreme and the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth were the headliners of Shirock 2019. On October 19, 2019 (in Ukhrul, India), the band played for almost thirty thousand people who witnessed them perform.

The band started the daily teaser releases on February 17, 2023, and continued until February 28, 2023. The single "Rise" by Extreme was published on March 1, 2023, while the album Six was scheduled for release on June 9, 2023. Extreme's "Banshee" and "#Rebel" music videos premiered on YouTube on April 19, 2023.
