Exodus Information
Exodus is an American thrash metal band. The current lineup consists of Lee Altus (guitars), Jack Gibson (bass and backing vocals), Steve "Zetro" Souza (lead vocals), Gary Holt (guitars and backing vocals), and Tom Hunting (drums). Except for Hunting, who left the group twice in 1989 and 2004 but returned in 2007, Exodus no longer has any founding members.
The fact that guitarist Kirk Hammett was a part of Exodus' original lineup is also noteworthy; he eventually quit the group in 1983 to join Metallica as Dave Mustaine's replacement. The only member to appear on every Exodus album is Holt, who took over for original guitarist Tim Agnello in 1981. Holt has been the band's most dependable member throughout numerous lineup changes and break-ups. A significant portion of the band's career has also been impacted by harsh disputes between band members and record labels, two lengthy hiatuses, the deaths of previous band members, and internal issues that are frequently drug-related.
Exodus has put out eleven studio albums, two live albums, a compilation album, and a re-recording of their debut album since the band's inception. Along with Metallica, they are cited as the founding members of the Bay Area's thrash metal scene. They have also been referred to as one of the scene's "big six" bands, along with Testament, Death Angel, Lz Rockit, Forbidden, and Vio-lence.
