EOB Information
Edward John O'Brien (April 15, 1968) is an English guitarist and songwriter known as EOB. He is from Oxford, England, and plays alternative rock, experimental rock, and electronic genres. During his childhood, EOB leaned more towards cricket and theatre. After the separation of his parents, EOB switched his focus towards music. He listened to post-punk acts such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, the Police, and David Bowie. He attended the University of Manchester and studied economics.
EOB met future Radiohead singer Thom Yorke while playing Lysander in a school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Soon many others joined the pair, and they founded the band On a Friday in 1995. With this band, EOB released many notable albums, including OK Computer (1997), Kid A (2000), and Amnesiac (2001). EOB embarked on a solo career and released his first solo track, "Santa Teresa," in October 2019, while Earth was the first solo album by him that came out in 2020.
Some of his other notable singles are "Santa Teresa," "Brasil," "Shangri-La," "Olympik," "Cloak of the Night," "Breathing," and "Table For One." EOB is known for playing Fender Stratocasters, including the Eric Clapton Stratocaster. His earliest guitar influence was Andy Summers, along with some other influences; Paul Weller of the Jam, Johnny Marr of the Smiths, Peter Buck of R.E.M, and John McGeoch of Magazine.
EOB also contributed to the soundtrack for the BBC drama series entitled Eureka Street and played guitar on the album Enemy of the Enemy.
