Empath Information
Empath is an American noise punk band. The current lineup of the group consists of Randall Coon, Jem Shanahan, Garrett Koloski, and Catherine Elicson. In 2015, while living together in Philadelphia, housemates Catherine Elicson, Jem Shanahan, and Garrett Koloski created the band Empath. Previously, Elicson was a member of the bands Goners and Katherine in her hometown of Columbus, Ohio, before making the move. The band Perfect Pussy, from Syracuse, New York, had Koloski on drums at the time. The group recorded Crystal Reality 1 & 2.
In 2016, alongside Koloski's former bandmate Shaun Sutkus, they started recording what would become Liberating Guilt and Fear. Coon's recordings were made in the fall of 2017 after he had joined the cast. Greg Saunier of Deerhoof handled the mastering, and Get Better Records released it in 2018. Inspired by Irv Teibel's 1970s album series of the same name, the band issued a 7" that year titled Environments.
Active Listening: Night on Earth, the band's debut long-playing album, was released 2018 by Get Better Records. Due to the record's success, the band was signed to Fat Possum Records, which promptly reissued it on CD and vinyl for the first time. Empath revealed in late 2021 that their second studio album, Visitor, will be released on February 11, 2022.
