ELO - Electric Light Orchestra Information
The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is an English rock band founded in 1970 in Birmingham formed by songwriters-multi-instrumentalists Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, along with drummer Bev Bevan. The band's music is classified as pop-rock, progressive rock, art rock, and progressive pop. The current two members, Jeff Lynne and Richard Tandy, are joined by the principal members Roy Wood – vocals, guitar, bass, cello, oboe, bassoon, and Bev Bevan – drums, percussion, backing vocals. The group was also known as Jeff Lynne's ELO.
"10538 Overture" was the first ELO song released on July 12, 1970. It was followed by Looking On at the end of 1970, and then Message from the Country in 1971. The Electric Light Orchestra was released in December 1971. A debut concert by ELO took place on April 16, 1972, at the Greyhound Pub in Croydon, Surrey. The band performed at the 1972 Reading Festival and made its first appearance on American Bandstand in the same year.
Some of the other albums by ELO are Face the Music (1975), A New World Record (1976), Out of the Blue (1977), Discovery (1979), Xanadu (1980), Time (1981) (credited as "ELO"), Secret Messages (1983), Balance of Power (1986), Zoom (2001), Alone in the Universe (2015), and From Out of Nowhere (2019).
ELO won Band of the Year at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards in November 2016, and in October, the band was nominated for the 2017 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
