Ed Schrader and Devlin Rice of Baltimore, Maryland, are the two halves of the rock duet Ed Schrader's Music Beat. Ed Schrader began performing as a solo artist in 2009, initially accompanied just by a drum. The Choir Inside was a solo album by Schrader that featured only his voice and a floor tom. After some time on the road as a duo, Ed invited Devlin Rice to join the tour in 2010. Ed has taken over drum duties, and Devlin has moved to bass.
In 2012, Load Records and Upset the Rhythm released Jazz Mind. It was "one of the stranger CDs to fall on my desk this year," according to Joe Hemmerling of Tiny Mix Tapes. He also termed it "a delightful little record." In promoting Jazz Mind, the duo embarked on the "Because Home Sucks, and Everywhere Else Is the Same" tour alongside the band's Lord Grunge, Psychedelic Horseshit, Wet Hair, and Bubbly Mommy Gun.
"Would You Make Us the Happiest Band in the World!" was the title of their second U.S. tour. North American Dumbest Tour dates back to Strange Matter in Richmond, Virginia, and wraps up at Now That's Class in Cleveland, Ohio. Ed Schrader and the Music Beat made their initial trip to Europe in October 2012, visiting cities like London, Manchester, and Paris. The duo embarked on a tour of New England at the start of 2013. The Ed Schrader Show took place at the Metro Gallery and featured performances by MATMOS and DDM as special guests.
