Dwarves Information
The Dwarves is an American punk rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Blag Dahlia, HeWhoCannotBeNamed, Rex Everything, The Fresh Prince of Darkness, and Snupac. The Dwarves' initial members met in the mid-1980s when they were all adolescents and playing in a Chicago garage rock band called Suburban Nightmare, which has been likened to The Sonics and labeled as belonging to the Paisley Underground culture. The Dwarves' psychedelic years of 1983–1986 are documented on Lick It (the psychedelic years 83–86), a 1999 compilation of 34 tracks released by Recess Records.
The band's members gained notoriety for engaging in self-harm, having sex during performances, and abusing strong substances. Sometimes, their live performances were stopped short after only fifteen minutes because of injuries sustained by audience members. Toolin' for a Warm Teabag, the band's second (nine-minute) LP, marked a departure from the band's early garage roots and towards a more truculent punk rock sound, influenced by GG Allin.
The band's shift to a more nihilistic sound, which led them to the Sub Pop era, is documented on Free Cocaine 86-88, a 39-song compilation released by Recess Records in 1999. Blood Guts & Pussy was published by the band on Sub Pop in 1990. The band's "River City Rapist" song was presented to George W. Bush to be used in his 2000 presidential campaign.
