Destruction Information
German thrash metal band Destruction was founded in 1982. One of the "Big Four" of the German thrash metal genre alongside Kreator, Sodom, and Tankard, they have received much acclaim for their work. Destruction was a part of the second wave of thrash metal in the mid to late '80s, along with American bands like Testament, Sacred Reich, Death Angel, and Dark Angel, and helped pioneer black metal by including several elements of what would become the genre.
Before signing with Nuclear Blast in the early 2000s, the band had to self-produce its albums because no record labels were interested in signing them during most of the 1990s. In 1985, they dropped the debut full-length Infernal Overkill; the following year, they dropped the second full-length, Eternal Devastation (1986). Harry Wilkens, a second guitarist, and Oliver Kaiser, formerly the band's drummer, joined the trio. Live Without Sense (1987) was their first live album, while the 1987 EP Mad Butcher and 1987 studio album Release from Agony were recorded and published with them (1989).
During this time, Destruction was incredibly successful around the world. They had toured extensively over Europe and North America, playing alongside bands like Venom, Slayer, Sodom, Celtic Frost, Kreator, Motörhead, King Diamond, Voivod, and Exodus.
