Deerhoof Information
Deerhoof is an American independent music group. The current lineup consists of Ed Rodriguez (guitar), John Dieterich (guitar), Satomi Matsuzaki (bass and vocals), and Greg Saunier (vocals and drums). Rob Fisk's improvisational bass and harmonica led to the formation of Deerhoof in 1994 in San Francisco. A week later, drummer Greg Saunier joined the group. After hearing them play at the 1994 Yoyo A Go Go event, proprietor Slim Moon soon had them record a single for Kill Rock Stars.
It was 2003 when Deerhoof's stint on Kill Rock Stars ended, making them the show's longest-running band. Matsuzaki edited a Japanese magazine in the Bay Area, while Cohen worked as a waiter in a Thai restaurant. Dieterich and Saunier were data entry clerks for law and consulting firms before they all decided to leave their jobs simultaneously to go on tour. The next year, they gave to Azadi! A Charity Anthology for the Afghanistan Women's Revolutionary Association.
A rough sketch inspired the next Deerhoof album by Japanese artist Ken Kagami. The lavish, campy sound of Broadway and Igor Stravinsky informed Milk Man, the record released in 2004. It topped the Dusted Radio Chart for six consecutive weeks, the CMJ Core Chart, and received a nomination for "Outstanding Alternative Album" at the California Music Awards.
