Dean Wareham Information
Dean Wareham (August 1, 1963) is an American actor and musician. He was born in Wellington, New Zealand. Wareham earned a Bachelor of Arts in social studies from Harvard University and the Dalton School in New York. Novelist Louise Wareham is one of his three siblings. After finishing their studies at Harvard University, guitarist Wareham, drummer Damon Krukowski, and bassist Naomi Yang formed the band Galaxie 500 in 1987. The band's name is a reference to a popular 1960s Ford automobile. When the indie Rough Trade record label folded, so did Galaxie 500's US and UK releases.
Wareham released an EP named "Emancipated Hearts" under his name in late 2013, followed by an album titled "Dean Wareham" in March 2014. Dean Wareham Vs. Cheval Sombre, an album of western-themed songs co-written by Wareham and singer-songwriter Cheval Sombre, was released in October 2018. Wareham's first full album of new songs since his eponymous 2014 solo album was published in 2021 under the title I Have Nothing to Say to the Mayor of LA.
The album includes updated versions of songs by Scott Walker and Lazy Smoke, in addition to eight brand-new original compositions written specifically for the album. Wareham has documented his time performing in independent rock bands in a memoir. From his time in Galaxie 500 and Luna until his separation and divorce, as well as his high school years in 1970s New York City, his life is chronicled in this book. Penguin Press released the book in March 2008 under the title Black Postcards.
