Damo Suzuki Information
Kenji Suzuki (January 16, 1950) is a Japanese musician who may be better known as Damo Suzuki. Since the early 1970s, Suzuki has been living in Germany and is known as the former lead singer of the Krautrock group called “Can.”
Jaki Liebezeit and Holger Czukay encountered Suzuki to busk in Munich, Germany, who invited him to join their group, and eventually, he did. Suzuki stayed with the group from 1970 to 1973. He recorded popular albums with the group, such as Ege Bamyasi, Future Days, and Tago Mago. Suzuki’s first vocal performance for Can was the soundtrack “Don’t Turn the Light On, Leave Me Alone.”
Damo Suzuki took a short break from music, although he returned in 1983 and is currently leading “Damo’s Suzuki Network.” He performs tours and live improv music with many local musicians and so-called “Sound Carriers.”
Damo Suzuki has been featured in a single of The Fall’s album released by the group in 1985 entitled “This Nation’s Saving Grace.” The single is entitled “I Am Damo Suzuki.” Another rock band took its name from Damo Suzuki called “The Mooney Suzuki.” Since 1997, Suzuki has been playing and touring many gigs.
Suzuki has played in countless albums so far in his lengthy music career such as Can The Peel Sessions (1995), Damo Suzuki’s Network Osaka Muse Hall (1997), Safety Magic Voices (2007), and Radio Massacre International “Lost in Transit 4: Damo” (2010).
