Con Funk Shun is a band that has been playing funk and R&B music since 1969. The group’s current lineup includes Michael Cooper, Felton Pilate Li, Cedric Martin, Paul Harrell, Karl Fuller, and Danny Thomas. The band’s influences included Sly and the Family Stone, Chaka Khan, Commodores, Wind & Fly, and Earth. Con Funk Shun signed its first record deal with Mercury Records in 1976, and the group enjoyed a full decade of successful national and overseas tours.
Con Funk Shun began in 1969 as “Project Soul.” It was formed by Louis A. McCall Sr. along with Michael Cooper. Both attended high school in Vallejo, California. Over time, the group began to grow when new members started joining the band. In 1973, the group released its debut album entitled “Organized Con Funk Shun.” The band released almost eleven more albums overtime after they signed with Mercury Records.
Con Funk Shun owns a long list of notable singles that they have released so far. Some major hit singles are “Clique” (1974), “Sho Feels Good To Me” (1976), “Shake and Dance With Me” (1978), and “(Let Me Put) Love on Your Mind” (1979). The band’s notable albums include Organized Con Funk Shun (1973), The Memphis Sessions (1973), Secrets (1977), Loveshine (1978), Candy (1979), Spirit of Love (1980), Touch (1980), 7 (1981), To the Max (1982), Fever (1983), Electric Lady (1985), Burnin’ Love (1986), and More Than Love (2015).
