Carbon Leaf is an American quintet based in Richmond, Virginia. The band’s current lineup includes Barry Privett, Terry Clark, Carter Gravatt, Jesse Humphrey, and Jon Markel.
Carbon Leaf is known as a folk-infused, Celtic, and alt-country indie rock group. The group has been playing and creating music since the early 1990s. They are also best known for their hit song “Life less Ordinary,” which debuted in 2004. The song reached number 5 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative charts.
Carbon Leaf began its career in 1992 in Virginia while performing at Randolph-Macon College. The band released its first album entitled “Meander” in 1995. The album featured the first few songs written by Carbon Leaf, such as “Country Monkes” and “One Day.” The band released its second album “Shadows in the Banquet Hall” in 1997. This album featured some more hit songs, including “Attica’s Flower Box Window,” “Wolftrap and Fireflies,” and “Flood.”
Carbon Leaf has worked with two record labels since they began playing, Constant Ivy Music and Vanguard Records. The group’s studio albums include Ether-Electrified Porch Music (November 1, 1999), Echo Echo (March 31, 2001), Indian Summer (July 13, 2004), and Nothing Rhymes with Woman (May 19, 2008).
