Buckshot Information
Kenyatta Blake (November 19, 1974) is an American New York-based rapper from Brooklyn. He is professionally known by his stage name Buckshot and best known as a frontman of Boot Camp Clik and Black Moon (hip-hop groups). Some of his other names are Hanif Alwin al-Sadiq, The BDI Thug (Beady-Eyed Thug), and Buckshot Shorty. Blake was a friend to Ewart “DJ Evil Dee” Dewgarde, Karim “5ft” Reid, and Walter “Mr. Walt” Dewgarde in high school. Later on, this group of youngsters evolved into the super production team called Da Beatminerz.
Blake founded Black Moon along with Reid and Ewart Dewgarde in 1992. “Who Got Da Props?” was the first single released by the trio in late 1992. It reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart and resulted in a recording deal with Nervous Records. The first full-length album by the band was Enta da Stage. In 1994, they left Nervous Records and created Duck Down Management with Drew “Dru-Ha” Friedman. The supergroup Boot Camp Clik was founded by Blake and Smif-N-Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, and O.G.C. in March 1997. For the People was the debut album by the band.
Some of the other notable albums released under the name Boot Camp Clik include The Chosen Few (2002), The Last Stand (2006), and Casualties of War (2007). War Zone (1999), Total Eclipse (2003), and Rise of da Moon (2019) are some of the Black Moon's releases. Blake’s notable collaborative albums are Chemistry (2005) with 9th Wonder, Survival Skills (2009) with KRS-One, and Backpack Travels (2014) with P-Money.
