Bruce Dickinson Information
Paul Bruce Dickinson (August 7, 1958) is an English musician. He was born in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Since 1981, he has been the lead singer for Iron Maiden, a heavy metal band. His operatic vocal style is well-known, as is his energetic theatrical presence. In the 1970s, while attending university in London, Dickinson began his musical career as the frontman of minor bar bands.
In 1979, he joined the British new wave heavy metal band Samson, with whom he earned considerable notoriety and recorded two studio albums under the stage name "Bruce Bruce." He joined Iron Maiden in 1981, replacing Paul Di'Anno, and made his debut on their 1982 album The Number of the Beast. In the early days, they released platinum and gold albums in the US and the UK from the 1980s to the 1990s.
Dickinson left Iron Maiden in 1993 to pursue a solo career, in which he experimented with a wide range of heavy metal and rock styles (Blaze Bayley succeeded him). He re-joined the band in 1999, along with guitarist Adrian Smith, and the band has since recorded six studio albums.
Dickinson has dabbled in a variety of other pursuits in addition to music. He went on to work for Astraeus Airlines as a commercial pilot, which led to several high-profile projects, including captaining Iron Maiden's converted charter plane, Ed Force One, on their global tours.
