Bret Michael Sychak (March 15, 1963) is a singer and musician born in Chicora, Pennsylvania. He goes by the stage name Bret Michaels. The former band by Sychak, named Poison, has sold over 50 million albums worldwide, including 15 million in the US alone. They've also had six Top 10 songs and one no.1 with "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" from the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
In addition to his work as a singer, Bret Michaels has released several solo albums, including the music accompanying the 1998 film A Letter from Death Row. He acted, wrote, directed, and contributed to a rock album, Songs of Life (2003), in this film.
The country-influenced rock album Freedom of Sound, released by Michaels in 2005, was inspired by his appearance as a judge on the talent program Nashville Star. The success of Rock of Love with Bret Michaels and its follow-ups helped propel him to international stardom with his debut solo album, Rock My World.
He also starred in his reality docu-series Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It, which led to the creation of his highest-charting solo album to date, Custom Built. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Hard Rock chart. The Travel Channel is another one of his well-known hosting gigs. Hit Parader said Michaels was the 40th best heavy metal singer in 2006.
Michaels appeared as "Banana" in the third season of The Masked Singer in 2020. On April 22, 2020, he finished in eighth position. Michaels was also a special guest on the 10th Impractical Jokers season, which aired in 2023.
