Boygenius Information
Boygenius is an American indie trio formed in 2018 by Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. This band's first release was an E.P. with their name on it, and it was recorded at Sound City Studios in L.A.
Bridgers has stated that the band's creation was "kind of an accident," since the members initially met as admirers of each other's work before developing friendships. Baker had toured with Dacus and Bridgers in 2016, and all three of them were part of the same community of young, aspiring musicians figuring out the indie scene.
In 2020, they reunited to provide backing vocals for songs from each other's solo projects. This included "Graceland Too" and "I Know the End" from Bridgers' Grammy-nominated Punisher, "Favor" from Baker's Little Oblivions, and "Going Going Gone" and "Please Stay" from Dacus' Home Video.
The band's self-titled debut studio album was announced in January 2023, with a March 31, 2023, release date. Along with the launch of the album came the publication of its cover art and three singles: "$20," "Emily, I'm Sorry," and "True Blue." Kristen Stewart directed all three music videos for the tracks, and they were blended into one promotional short film titled The Film.
The band was announced as one of three headliners for AEG Presents' January 31, 2023, Re:SET Concert Series. The band performed stunningly at the Coachella Music Festival in April 2023. A world tour, titled "The Tour," was subsequently set in motion.
