Blue Dogs Information
The Blue Dogs is an American band founded in 1987 and originated from Charleston, South Carolina. The music of the group plays country rock, roots rock, and Americana. The band was created by Bobby Houck (Lead vocals, Acoustic guitar, Harmonica) and Hank Futch (Vocals, Upright bass), who were later joined by Charlie Thompson – Pedal Steel, Dan Hood – Guitar, and Parker Dewitt – Drums & Percussion. Some of the notable collaborators and past members are Greg Walker, Evans Nicholson, Jason Hawthorn, and Chris Holden.
The Blue Dogs is well-known for interactive performances with American roots. The group is now a staple in southern live entertainment and the Americana scene. The first record of the Blue Dogs was "Music For Dog People," recorded live in the studio at Online Audio, located in Charleston, SC. The album came out in 1992 and was followed by "Soul Dogfood" in 1993 and "Live at the Dock Street Theatre" in 1995. The band first opened for Hootie & The Blowfish in April of 1996.
In 2013, after 25 years together, the band members celebrated the union with a two-set performance at the Charleston Music Hall. The Blue Dogs have shared the stage with several well-known artists such as Widespread Panic, Bruce Hornsby, Willie Nelson, Hootie & the Blowfish.
Some of the notable studio albums by the Blue Dogs are Blue Dogs (1997), Letters From Round O (1999), Halos And Good Buys (2004), For The Record (Live at the Handlebar) (1999), Live At The Florence Little Theatre (2001), and Live At Workplay (2006).
