Blonde Redhead Information
Blonde Redhead is an alternative rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Kazu Makino, Amedeo Pace, and Simone Pace. In 1993, Amedeo and Simone of Blonde Redhead met Kazu Makino, an art student, at a New York City Italian restaurant. The band took its name from a track on the no-wave band DNA's 1981 EP, A Taste of DNA.
The first Blonde Redhead album was titled Blonde Redhead and was out in 1995. Soon afterward, Maki Takahashi, the band's fourth member, quit, and her friend Toko Yasuda took over bass duties. Yasuda contributed to the band's 1995 sophomore effort, La Mia Vita Violenta. Both albums were released by the New York independent label Smells Like. The group kept going as a trio.
The third album, Fake Can Be Just as Good, was released through Touch & Go in 1997. Vern Rumsey of Unwound was brought in to play bass as a guest musician for the band. The twins' friend from Boston, Skli Sverrisson, appeared on subsequent albums.
In an Expression of the Inexpressible, their fourth studio album included Fugazi's Guy Picciotto as the album's producer. The 1998 album also has Picciotto's vocals on the track "Futurism vs. Passéism Part 2," which he also helped create.
