Blacktop Mojo Information
Blacktop Mojo is an American band that originated in a small East Texas town. The group was formed in 2012 by Nathan Gillis (drummer) and Matt James (vocalist). The band’s music is influenced by a blend of genres, such as Southern Metal, classic rock guitar riffs, and heavy grunge grooves. The group released its debut album in 2014 entitled “I Am.” For several years, the group performed in dive bars, honky-tonks, and dancehalls.
Blacktop Mojo teamed up with a famous Muscle Shoals Sound producer, Jimmy Johnson, and his long-time engineer Steve Melton. Johnson has worked with Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Rolling Stones. The collaboration was created for the group’s sophomore outing entitled “Burn The Ships,” and the recording took place at Sound Emporium in Nashville.
Burn The Ships was released under Cuhmon Records, producing two top 40 Billboard singles on the Mainstream Active Rock Charts. One was the cover of the Aerosmith classic “Dream On,” which reached number 31, and the other one was “Where The Wind Blows,” that reached number 27. Blacktop Mojo has shared the stage with many notable artists such as Puddle of Mudd, Candlebox, and Bon Jovi.
Blacktop Mojo soon embarked on their first tour after receiving enough acclaim from critics. They returned in October 2018 to their home to write and record their next studio album “Under The Sun.” Once released, the album reached number 19 on the Billboard Hard Rock albums Charts.
