Blackbear Information
Matthew Tyler Musto (November 27, 1990) is an American record producer, singer, musician, and songwriter. He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida. He is professionally known by his stage name, Blackbear. Musto fronted the Florida-based rock ensemble Polaroid during his high school years. They've been called everything from a pop punk band to a punk rock band to a garage band, and they only put out one record before calling it quits. When Musto was a freshman in high school, his band contracted with Leakmob Records.
Musto left education in the tenth grade to pursue a music career. Polaroid's sound was heavily inspired by emo as the band developed. Musto had started composing his songs by 2008, as well. Musto left Polaroid and embarked on a solo career when he relocated to Atlanta to collaborate with Ne-Yo. His first CD, Brightness, was released in 2008, and he followed it up with 2009's Contrast and 2010's Exposure.
Soon after the release of his holiday single "I Detest the Holidays" (co-written with Tyler Carter of Woe, Is Me) in late 2010, he released another song, "Douche Bag," in early 2011. The Gone For Good EP and the Year of the Blackbear EP were both published by Musto around the same time in 2011. Musto chose to release music under the alias Blackbear in the late autumn of 2011. "Marauder Music" by Mike Posner was the first song to be published under the Blackbear moniker in November of 2011.
