Billy Bragg Information
Stephen William Bragg (December 20, 1957) is an English singer-songwriter, musician, novelist, and political activist. His compositions combine folk, punk, and protest styles, and his lyrics cover various topics, including politics and love. Politics and social change on the left are at the heart of his advocacy. Bragg debuted in the Top 10 with the 1986 release of Talking with the Taxman About Poetry.
The title is derived from a poem written by Vladimir Mayakovsky. The inner sleeve of the album has a translated version of the poem. To celebrate 40 years of playing music, Bragg announced in February 2023 a compilation series called The Roaring Forty (1983–2023). There was a 13-song LP collection, a 40-song triple-LP/double-CD set, and a 14-disc CD box set with almost 300 songs.
In 2023, he launched the Roaring Forty tour, which traveled throughout the UK, Ireland, and the rest of continental Europe. "Rich Men Earning North of a Million" was Bragg's new single, released in August 2023. With conservative American country performer Oliver Anthony's "Rich Men North of Richmond" as an inspiration, the solo piece was composed and recorded in a flash.
