Bill Champlin Information
William Bradford Champlin (May 21, 1947) is an American singer, producer, musician, arranger, and songwriter from Oakland, California. His music is blues, rock, and R&B. He demonstrated a piano talent during his early childhood. Champlin picked up a guitar as a child after being highly inspired by Elvis Presley. During his time in Tamalpais High School, in Mill Valley, California, Champlin started a band named The Opposite Six. Later, he attended college but dropped out of school to pursue a career in music.
Champlin changed his band name from The Opposite Six to the Sons of Champlin. He recorded many well-reviewed albums, such as Loosen Up Naturally and Circle Filled With Love. Due to being uncertain about his band's future, Champlin joined Jerry Miller of Moby Grape in The Rhythm Dukes. During his time in LA, Champlin was especially in demand for his singing. He has worked with many artists so far, such as Boz Scaggs, Elton John, The Tubes, Al Jarreau, George Duke, Lee Ritenour, and Amy Grant.
Champlin also dueted with Patti LaBelle on the Last Unbroken Heart in 1986. As a solo artist, he released many notable studio albums, including 1990: No Wasted Moments, 1992: Burn Down The Night, 2008: No Place Left To Fall, 2015: Champlin, Williams, Friestedt, 2018: Bleeding Secrets Bill Champlin & WunderGround, and 2020: Champlin, Williams, Friestedt II. He also released two Live albums and various hit singles.
