Banners Information
Michael Joseph Nelson is an English musician, professionally known by his stage name, Banners. The band is currently based in Toronto, Ontario. Banners grew up singing in Liverpool Cathedral Choir. He has performed with the choir in different locations throughout Europe, where he decided to start a solo career. Banners relocated to Toronto, Ontario, in 2015. In March 2015, he released his debut single entitled “Ghosts.” Christopher Ranson directed the music video of that single.
In August 2015, Banners released his second single, “Shine a Light,” for the first time under his new and current moniker. The single reached number 5 on the Billboard Canada Rock chart and 71 on the Canadian Hot 100. Spotify included him in December 2015 on its Spotlight list. He released his third single entitled “Start a Riot” on December 4, 2015. The song also reached number 24 on the Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
In 2016, Banners signed a record deal with Island Records. He released his self-titled debut EP, which Kosmeniuk produced. It was released on January 15, 2016. The EP also peaked at number 67 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Chart. On October 4, 2019, Banners released his debut full-length album entitled, Where the Shadow Ends.
Banner’s other EPs include, Always Yours (May 1, 2020), Somebody to Someone (August 3, 2020), The Rise, The Fall (August 5, 2020), Straight in the Room (August 7, 2020), and It’s Gonna Be OK (September 24, 2021).
