The band is exclusively based on the celebration of the music by Rory Gallagher. Band of Friends is not only about the notes, but the sound, energy, and feel of Rory Gallagher, which they deliver. The music of the band is defined as blues, blues rock, rock, and rock and roll.
Rory Gallagher was an Irish guitarist-vocalist who passed away in 1995. After his death, an eleven-album catalog of inspired albums along with the memory of unforgettably energetic concerts was left behind. Bassist Gerry McAvoy was the person who appeared on every one of those albums. Drummer, Ted McKenna powered those live shows from 1977 until 1981 as well as performed on Photo-Finish, Top Priority, and Stage Struck albums acclaimed by Rory. He was the oldest friend of Rory, who teamed up with Dutch guitarist and vocalist Marcel Scherpenzeel.
Band of Friends - A Celebration of Rory Gallagher won the European Blues Award 2013 for the best band category and 2015. They also won the Dutch Blues Award in 2016.
