Augustana Information
Augustana is a San Diego, California-based American rock band. The group’s current lineup includes Dan Layus (vocals, guitar, and piano). Their song “Boston” and the album All the Stars and Boulevards are their most well-known works. Dan Layus, the band’s lone surviving member, serves as its frontman. Dan Layus gathered pals Josiah Rosen, Kyle Baker, and Simeon Lohrmann at Greenville University in Illinois in the autumn of 2002 to compose and produce music.
Augustana started by re-recording “More Than a Love Tune,” a song Dan wrote for his high school lover while living in California. They initially intended to call themselves The Looking Glass, but after discovering another band with the same name, they settled on “Augustana.” Midwest Skies and Sleepless Mondays, Jon King’s full-length first album, was recorded in his home studio. Although just 1000 copies of the CD were made and released in 2003, early buzz and reviews were mostly good. Later that year, the band recorded and published the Mayfield EP in a limited edition of 25 copies.
Augustana has shared stages with Switchfoot, Maroon 5, The Fray, Counting Crows, Dashboard Confessional, O.A.R., Snow Patrol, The Damnwells, Goo Goo Dolls, Acceptance, Cartel, and OneRepublic, as well as headlining their tours.
“Sweet and Low,” “I Still Ain’t Over You,” “Just Stay Here Tonight,” and “Ash and Ember” are just a few of Augustana’s tracks. Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt (2008), Augustana (2011), and Life Imitating Life (2014) are among their studio albums.
