Arca Information
Arca (October 14, 1989) is a Venezuelan DJ, songwriter, singer, performance artist, mixing engineer, and record producer. She is known by her stage name “Arca” but originally named Alejandra Ghersi. Arca was born in Caracas, Venezuela. At the age of 9 years, she began taking piano lessons right after returning to Venezuela. In her teen years, she released her music by the name “Nuuro” that brought her basic popularity on a local basis. During that same year, Arca was also praised by some big national artists such as Los Amigos Invisibles. To pursue her career in music, she went to New York University and attended Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.
Arca released her debut EP “Baron Libre” through UNO NYC on February 1, 2012. The same year on April 19 and August 6, she released the stretch one and stretch 2 EP, respectively. She got the credits for songwriting, programming, and production for five songs by the “Yeezus,” which was the sixth album of Kanye West in 2013. They were released on June 18, 2013. Under the record label “Hippos in Tanks,” and through SoundCloud, Arca released her debut mixtape entitled “&&&&&.”
Arca released her debut studio album “Xen” on November 4, 2014, under the label Mute Records. She has also contributed her role in the ninth album from Bjork entitled “Vulnicura.” This album was released on January 20, 2015. She also collaborated with the American singer Kelela for her next EP project that had to be released in October 2015 entitled “Hallucinogen.” Arca has released two more studio albums, overall three, including Mutant (2015) and Arca (2017). In 2018, during A2IM Libera Awards, she was nominated for the categories “Video of the Year” and “Best Outlier Album.”
