April Wine Information
April Wine is a 1969-founded Canadian rock band headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia. April Wine was established in 1969 and was led by singer-guitarist-songwriter Myles Goodwyn until his retirement in 2023. Their second album, On Record (1972), had a number two single in Canada and a top 40 hit with "Bad Side of the Moon" and "You Could Have Been a Lady" respectively.
Their popularity in Canada is through the roof, but their worldwide success has been more modest. Songs like "Just Between You and Me" (1981), "Roller" (1979), "Tonite Is a Wonderful Time to Fall in Love" (1975), "Sign of the Gypsy Queen" (1981), "You Could Have Been a Lady" (1972), and "I Like to Rock" (1980) garnered the most international attention for them in the 1970s and early 1980s (1981). They have released fifteen studio albums.
Richard Lanthier, a Yes tribute band Close to the Edge member, succeeded LeBoeuf in July of 2010 after LeBoeuf departed April Wine on November 3, 2010. Roy "Nip" Nichol, formerly of the band SamHill, succeeded Mackay after he departed in March 2012. Parkinson's illness took Steve Lang's life on February 4, 2017, when he was 67 years old.
Music labels kept releasing albums; in 2020, BGO Records re-released The Nature Of The Beast/Power Play with improved audio. In addition to their yearly cross-Canada tours, April Wine—including Goodwyn, Greenway, Lanthier, and drummer Roy "Nip" Nichol—also played at European and US festivals. Ottawa was the site of their September 2021 performance.
