Alt-J Information
Alt-J is an English pop-rock band founded in Leeds in 2007. Joe Newman (lead guitar/vocals), Thom Sonny Green (drums), Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboards/vocals), and formerly Gwilym Sainsbury (bass) make up their current lineup.
They received the 2012 British Mercury Prize for their debut album, An Awesome Wave. It was released in Europe in May 2012 and in the U.S. in September of the same year. Early in 2014, Sainsbury decided to leave the band.
This Is All Yours, their second record, came out on September 22, 2014, and went straight to number one in the U.K. Released on May 24, 2017, "Adeline" is the third song from alt-J's Relaxer album. The complete album came out briefly on June 2, 2017. On July 12, the album's fourth single, "Deadcrush," was released to the public and later used as the game's official soundtrack.
With the release of "Pleader" on September 15, 2017, the band released their 5th single. Many other musicians have released their versions of Relaxer songs. Pitchfork rated Relaxer at 4.5 out of 10, and it was nominated for the 2017 Mercury Prize. An updated version of Relaxer was made available to the public on September 28, 2018. Relaxer is a "rap-heavy do-over" of the album from the previous year.
The band announced on September 16 that their first single since 2018 would be named "U&ME" and would come out on September 22 of that year. Their fourth studio album, The Dream, was announced alongside the single's release on February 11, 2022. Tell Me Lies' pilot episode used their song "Breezeblocks" that same year.
