Formed in 2000, the French band Alcest, with multi-instrumentalist Neige (Stéphane Paut), is known for the genres of black gaze, black metal, and shoegaze. First as a black metal project, then as a bit of atmospheric, ethereal, introspective thing that it turned into, it has fans from anywhere it can go.
Here in 2023 Alcest still breaks the boundaries with their new releases and live performances. Despite that, their music remains focused on their signature style, usually associated with nature, spirituality, and otherworldly beauty themes. The score was created by Écailles de Lune and Spiritual Instinct, which attract critical acclaim due to their lush soundscapes and emotional depth, they are albums such as "Protection" and "Là où naissent les couleurs nouvelles" that have become fan favorites.
Alcest's music is not of the typical metal genres, it is immersive and dream-like. The band has toured extensively worldwide, playing at major festivals and gathering a devoted international fanbase.
