Tick...Tick...Boom! Information
Jonathan Larson wrote the musical Tick, Tick... Boom!. It takes place in 1990 in New York City and follows the life of a young man named Jon as he strives to become a composer. Jon is anxious that he has chosen the incorrect profession by pursuing a career in the performing arts. According to Larson's father, who wrote the liner notes for the cast album, the plot is semi-autobiographical; Larson had attempted to make it big in the theater scene since the '80s.
In 1990, Larson started performing the piece solo. Playwright David Auburn reworked it after his death in 1996 to accommodate three actors, and it had its Off-Broadway premiere in 2001. The show has now gone on to have multiple performances in various parts of the world, including the West End, Off-Broadway, on tour in the United States, and two Off-Broadway revivals (in 2014 and 2016).
In November 2021, Netflix released a film adaption helmed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, featuring Andrew Garfield as the protagonist. The critics mostly gave the movie good reviews, and Garfield was nominated for an Oscar for his role.
