San Diego Comic Con Information
San Diego Comic-Con International has been a nonprofit entertainment event showcasing a variety of genres and comic books since 1970. It takes place every year in San Diego, California. Comic-Con, the San Diego Comic-Con, or SDCC, are the most frequent acronyms for the event; however, according to the website, Comic-Con International: San Diego is the official name.
Shel Dorf expressed his hope that the inaugural Con would attract 500 attendees in an interview; the convention was subsequently renamed from the Golden State Comic Book Convention to the "San Diego Comic Book Convention''. It was named after its 1970 founders, a group of San Diegans that included Richard Alf, Ken Krueger, Ron Graf, and Mike Towry.
The convention has expanded its scope from its original focus on comic books and science fiction/fantasy media to encompass a wider variety of popular arts. This includes horror, Western animation, anime, comics, manga, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, fantasy novels, and collectible card sets.
More than 130,000 people packed the San Diego Convention Center in 2010 and every year after that. The biggest annual comic and pop culture festival in the world is one of the several Guinness World Records held by the event, which also draws massive audiences.
In November 2021, there was a more intimate "special edition" event, and in 2022, the major performance came back. July 20, 2023, was the start date of the latest Comic-Con.
