The River Bride is a musical play written in the United States. The River Bride had its world premiere on Feb. 28, 2016, at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Angus Bowmer Theatre in Ashland, Oregon, after being developed in residency with AlterTheater Ensemble in San Rafael, California.
The following is a synopsis of the play: Once upon a time, two sisters struggled to find their "happily ever after" in a fishing village near the Amazon. The wedding of Helena's sister Belmira is something Helena is dreading. Duarte, the groom, should have been hers. And she knows that her sister is merely looking for an exciting new life in the metropolis to escape their dull Brazilian village.
However, three days before the wedding, a fisherman rescues a mysterious stranger from the river - a guy with no history who offers both sisters an enticing but potentially hazardous future. Brazilian folklore and lyric storytelling create a heartfelt story of genuine love, regret, transformation, and the effort to stay true to your family while being true to yourself.
