The Kite Runner Information
The Kite Runner is a stage adaptation of the novel The Kite Runner, written by Khaled Hosseini, an Afghan-American author, in 2003. In addition to using the novel from 2003 as a basis, it has no connection to the movie The Kite Runner, released in 2007. Matthew Spangler wrote the adaptation for the stage, and it was first performed at the San Jose Repertory Theatre in 2009.
At the Hayes Theater on July 21, 2022, a Broadway production that featured Azita Ghanizada as Soraya, Eric Sirakian as Hassan/Sohrab, and Faran Tahir as Baba debuted to extremely mixed reviews. Amir Arison played the role of Amir in the show.
In 2024, the same producers and director of the Broadway production announced a nationwide tour of the show. Ramzi Khalaf played the role of Amir, while Awesta Zarif played the role of Soraya. Shahzeb Zahid Hussain played the role of Hassan/Sohrab, and Haythem Noor played Baba.
