Our House Information
Our House is a musical including one song, "It Must Be Love" by Labi Siffre, and a script by writer Tim Firth, together with songs and lyrics by Madness. Originally premiering at The Cambridge Theatre in 2002, Our House won the 2003 Olivier Award for Best New Musical and successfully toured domestically and abroad. Writer Tim Firth investigates the ideas of love, family values, growing up, responsibility, and losing the people that mold via the music of Madness.
Among the few clear inspirations on Our House are the 1998 romantic comedy Sliding Doors and Willy Russell's Blood Brothers. Some critics have even likened the production to the Jonathan Larson rock opera Rent, the British response to the life of a group of twenty-something-year-olds living in New York.
Celebrating the show's tenth anniversary, Our House returned to London's West End on November 11, 2012, for a one-off Gala at the Savoy Theatre. Suggs assumed the role of Joe's father. Our House began touring the Lyceum Theatre, Crewe, on August 10, 2017, under the direction of James Tobias and produced by Immersion Theatre & Damian Tracey Productions; it closed on November 25, 2017, at the Wycombe Swan.
