Kathy Najimy Information
Kathy Ann Najimy (February 6, 1957) is an American comedian, actress, writer, and activist. She was born in San Diego, California. Najimy is the daughter of Lebanese American parents and attended Crawford High School. Najimy appeared with Mo Gaffney in her feminist comedy play entitled “The Kathy and Mo Show,” which premiered in 1986. The show had three long-term New York City runs that generated two HBO specials named The Dark Side and Parallel Lives.
Najimy started her film career in the early 1990s playing several minor roles in The Fisher King, The Hard Way, This Is My Life, and Soapdish. Najimy played her first major role as Sister Mary Patrick in the 1992 comedy entitled Sister Act. In 1993, she reprised the same role in Sister Act 2. Najimy was featured as a star in Hocus Pocus as Mary Sanderson working alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler.
Najimy has also appeared in Disney’s Descendants, where she was the Evil Queen. She played the role of stepmother in CinderElmo, which was a primetime special for Sesame Street. Najimy expanded into television roles, which includes a dramatic recurring role in Chicago Hope. From 1997 to 2000, she was part of the cast of Veronica’s Closet.
