Hilary Hahn Information
Hilary Hahn is an American violinist. She has performed as a soloist and recitalist with famous orchestras and conductors worldwide. On November 27, 1979, Hahn was born in Lexington, Virginia, and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. Hahn was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia when she was ten years old, where she studied with Jascha Brodsky for seven years. She studied Kreutzer, evk, Gaviniès, Rode études, Paganini's Caprices, 28 violin concertos, chamber compositions, and other showpieces.
Hahn's major orchestral debut occurred with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra when she was 11 years old in 1991. Shortly after, she made her professional debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and New York Philharmonic. In 1994, Hahn made her international debut, performing the Bernstein Serenade in Hungary and Ivan Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In 1995, she made her German debut with Lorin Maazel and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven's Violin Concerto. The concert was broadcast in Europe.
Hahn made her Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1996, performing Saint-Saens' third violin concerto. David Zinman, the conductor of the Baltimore Symphony and Hahn's mentor since she was ten, and Lorin Maazel, whose Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra she performed in Europe, were both influential in her development as a musician and a student, according to a 1999 interview with Strings Magazine.
Hahn has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and Singapore Symphony Orchestra, among others.
