George Will Information
George Will (May 4, 1941) is an American libertarian-conservative political commentator and author. He was born in Champaign, Illinois. Will attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, for his undergraduate education and earned a BA in theology there in 1962. After graduating with a bachelor's degree (traditionally elevated to a master's) in the philosophy, politics, and economics program at Oxford University, he moved to England and attended Magdalen College, Oxford.
After that, Will pursued graduate work in political science at Princeton, earning his Ph.D. in 1968 with a dissertation titled "Beyond the Reach of Majorities: Closed Questions in the Open Society." The title evoked a famous phrase in the 1943 Supreme Court case West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette. He worked for Colorado Senator Gordon Allott (R) from 1970 until 1972.
Later, Will shared his expertise in political philosophy as a professor at Michigan State University's James Madison College and the University of Toronto. In 1995 and 1998, he was a professor at Harvard. After receiving "distinguished criticism on a variety of themes," Will was awarded the 1977 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Will worked as a contributor for Fox News from 2013 to 2017. Will was a news analyst for ABC News and a member of the original panel for This Week with David Brinkley in 1981 before he began his career at Fox News in the early 1980s.
