Frenchie Davis Information
Franchell "Frenchie" Davis (May 7, 1979) is an American Broadway performer and pop, soul, dance/electronica singer. She was born in Washington, DC. Davis was a competitor on American Idol's second season in 2003; she was eliminated early because of topless images from her former career. Two months later, the Idol producers felt that Davis's participation would be inappropriate, but they took no action then.
Davis followed her time on American Idol with a performance in the 2003 Broadway revival of Rent. She also played ensemble roles, including Mrs. Jefferson (Joanne's mom), a woman with bags, a coat dealer, Mrs. Marquez (Mimi's mom), and others in the opening number of Act Two, "Seasons of Love," in which she performed the solo. She would also substitute for Joanne on occasion. Davis resumed her performance as Ms. Mimi in the Broadway version of Rent on June 1, 2005. Before announcing her departure from Rent, after a performance in the middle of April 2007, Davis had previously said she would leave the musical in May 2007.
Davis and fellow second-season American Idol contestants Ruben Studdard and Trenyce Cobbins featured in a national tour of the musical revue Ain't Misbehavin' in 2008. The tour lasted through May 2009, and its promoted album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Musical Show.
